CAPR 's CONTRIBUTION IN PEACE BUILDINGS ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNITIES DEVELOPMENT AS A LOCAL NGO .

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Collectif Des Artisans De Paix Et la Reconciliation (CAPR) is a local Non-Governmental Organization in Rwanda that aims at promoting peace building activities and

Rwandan’s participation in community development RATIONALE

For several years until the early 90’s, Rwanda was disorganized by the civil war which highly weakened the then already fragile economy. This left most of the society and the country’s population poor. As a result, the observance of human rights lowered, the levels of tolerance among the population went down which obviously has a bearing on Peace, Unity and National Reconciliation. The Government of the Republic of Rwanda has since put up considerable measures to uphold Peace in the country, ensure observance of Human Rights, tolerance and Unity among others. These are being enforced through Governmental institutions like Security forces, National Commission for Human rights, National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) among others. However, these and more face multitudes of challenges in a bid to ensure maximum results in maximum respect to human rights, tolerance, Unity and reconciliation among others. It’s against this background that in 2003, the founding members of CAPR sought to provide workable solutions to these and many more of the challenges faced by some and more of the fore mentioned organizations. The Organization set out objectives that it has since gone on to achieve considerably and continues to perform in that very path. It has and continues to have tremendous success in the Northern, Southern and eastern Provinces and will continue to spread in all the provinces around the Country.
